Oscar Watch: SVA Faculty and Alumni Nominated for 2015 Academy Awards

The 87th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, and once again this year several members of the SVA community are in the running for Oscars.

MPS Directing faculty member Alexander Dinelaris co-wrote the screenplay for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s critically acclaimed Birdman, which is nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

SVA alumnus Jeremy Dawson (MFA 1993 Photography, Video and Related Media) produced the Wes Anderson–directed feature The Grand Budapest Hotel, which is up for Best Picture.

Former BFA Film and Video student Morten Tyldum is nominated for Best Director for The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.

The Dam Keeper, co-directed by Dice Tsutsumi (BFA 1998 Illustration), is in contention for the Animated Short Film Oscar.

MFA Social Documentary Film Chair Maro Chermayeff served as executive producer of Kehinde Wiley: An Economy of Grace, which was shortlisted in the Documentary Short Subject category.
