Alumnus Tyler Mintz (MFA 2011 Design) is part of a small team that created and launched Bikestock, a bike parts vending machine company that also offers free bike repair 24 hours a day in New York City. Located in Brooklyn and Manhattan, the kiosks offer cyclists everything from inner tubes and bike locks to energy bars and headphones. Attached to each Bikestock vending machine is an air pump, repair table, and bike tools that are free to use.
“For many New Yorker’s cycling is the most convenient choice of transport. Whether it’s because you can’t afford a cab or don’t like being a sardine on the L, bicycles provide an important alternative for those who choose it,” writes Mintz. “By offering cyclists what they need around the clock we aim to empower and encourage all New Yorker’s to ride a bike and explore the streets of New York City.”
