What’s In Store: Mort-Gage, Innkeepers and Setting Suns

June 18, 2012

Mort-Gage (House of Broken Dreams) (Sinland Press) by David Sandlin (faculty member, MFA Illustration as Visual Essay and BFA Fine Arts departments): Sandlin’s limited edition comic/artist book explores the recent financial crisis through this tale about demons and ghosts of foreclosure that descend upon a one-time dream home. According to Steven Heller, “Mortgage is arguably one of his best… its macabre imagery will send a shiver down the spine of any old mortgage holder or new mortgage getter.”

The Innkeepers (Dark Sky Films) by Ti West (BFA 2003 Film, Video and Animation):  West’s latest horror-thriller, which centers on two young hotel clerks stuck working the night shift at a desolate small-town Inn during its last days of business, is now available on DVD. The film favors atmosphere, mystery and angst over blood, guts and gore.

We are all setting suns (self published) by Jenny Morgan (MFA 2008 Fine Arts):  This volume captures Morgan’s output between 2003-2006, when she was painting in the Denver market before moving to New York City. The compilation features her portraits of major public figures like Julian Assange, Jil Sander, Gwyneth Paltrow and Courtney Love . Morgan will be signing copies of the book at Like the Spice Gallery in Brooklyn on June 22nd from 6:30-7:30pm.
