On Tuesday, March 29, at 6pm, the new MPS Fashion Photography Department presents the premiere edition of the New York Fashion Film Festival at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street. The evening’s program begins with a reception, followed by screenings of select fashion-focused films and a panel discussion exploring this evolving genre and its growing influence on the fashion industry.
Curated by MPS Fashion Photography Department faculty member Emma Reeves and alumnus Bon Duke (BFA 2009 Photography), the program features original short films created for fashion clients. The lineup includes: Mel Bles’s Missoni Video Campaign SS2011 for Missoni; Bruce Thierry Cheung’s Step, Clap, Go! for Opening Ceremony; Cheung and Andinh Ha’s Pas de Deux Coda for Opening Ceremony; Kinga Burza’s Seven Henrietta Street for Kate Spade; Dominique Palombo’s MOVE for Rachel Roy; Harmony Korine’s Act Da Fool for Proenza Schouler; and Jennifer Venditti’s Screen Test for Bloomingdales and Mirror Mirror for Rachel Roy, among many other notable examples of cutting-edge fashion films. The panel discussion that follows the screenings will include panelists Rory Satran from Opening Ceremony, Tarik Malak of Swell, Maria Gallagher of Lovely and Amazing Films and Alex Arce of D-Touch; Reeves will moderate the discussion.
The evening will be hosted by MPS Fashion Photography Department Co-chairs Stephen Frailey, chair of the BFA Photography Department and editor of Dear Dave, magazine, and Jimmy Moffat, co-founder of Art + Commerce; faculty member Emma Reeves, creative consultant and senior editor of The Journal; and faculty member Andrew Richardson, stylist and creative director.
