Honor Roll: SVA in Art Directors Club Annual 89

The Art Directors Club Annual recognizes the best work of the year in print and broadcast advertising, interactive media, graphic design, publication design, packaging, photography and illustration. SVA was named School of the Year and had numerous faculty, alumni and current students selected as winners for their work in multiple categories.

The Gold Award in the Illustration – Cartoon/Comic Book category went to Jungyeon Roh (MFA 2011 Illustration as Visual Essay) for her project Today is Sushi Day in which, as a “sushi master,” she taught customers at a rotating sushi restaurant how to be master sushi eaters. Sara Roderick and Jyn Li (both BFA 2009 Advertising) were awarded Silver in the Advertising – Print – Posters and Billboards category for Crane, their ads showing Caterpillar cranes holding billboards by highways. The Bronze award for Collateral Advertising – Unconventional or Guerilla also went to two 2009 BFA Advertising graduates,  Julissa Ortiz and Alex Sunyoung Koo, for their construction-barrier poster designs. What Goes Around Come Around consisted of a poster campaign focusing on the cycle of war designed by faculty member Frank Anselmo and alumni Jeseok Yi (BFA 2009 Advertising) and Alfred S. Park (BFA 2008 Graphic Design) and won Bronze in the Poster Design – Public Service/Non-profit category.

MFA Design Department student Wesley Gott was awarded Bronze in the Television and Cinema – Design – Typography section for his project My Best Stories, a stop-motion animation centering on how failures make us human. Alumnus Eunjung Yoo (BFA 2010 Graphic Design) received a Merit award in the Design – Branding – Non-profit category for her City Harvest project design, intended to encourage donations to New York’s hungry. Merit awards also went to two BFA Advertising alumni from the class of 2010, Marianna D’Annunzio and Jang Cho, for their innovative billboard designs for DEWALT and Colgate.

SVA students were also selected for three Nissan Cube awards. The Bronze award in the Interactive section went to 2010 BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department graduates Leah Alfonso and Matt Steedman; a Merit award for Advertising – Print – Newspaper – Magazine went to current BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department students Jae Sung Jung and Hanso Lee; and finally, James Kyungmo Yang (MFA 2010 Design) earned a Merit award for Corporate and Promotional Design.

This year’s winners will be announced at the 90th ADC Awards Gala, to be held on May 10 in New York City.
