April 13, 2010
  • Alumnus Gerard Way (BFA 1999 Cartooning) appears on the cover of the May issue of NYLON Guys. Way, best known as the frontman of the band My Chemical Romance, has also written a comic series The Umbrella Academy and is currently working on a comic entitled The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys about a hunt for missing Ramones records. Way spoke to the magazine about the band’s history and newest album in an eight-page spread.
  • Alumnus and faculty member Sam Weber (MFA 2005 Illustration as Visual Essay; faculty, BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department) was selected by Print magazine for inclusion on its New Visual Artists 2010 list. The issue profiles 20 rising talents in graphic design, advertising, illustration, digital media, photography and animation under the age of 30. Weber’s illustrations often feature intricate details and are inspired by fantasy and science fiction.
  • MFA Design Department Co-chair Steven Heller offered his insight in an Inc. magazine article about low-cost online logo-design companies. Heller explains the more involved process that traditional design firms employ, which often results in sophisticated, long-lasting logos.
