In The Press: Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao in New York magazine

April 21, 2010
  • The headline story in the current issue of New York magazine tallies up “The Most Livable Neighborhoods in New York,” and includes photography by alumnus Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao (MFA 2005 Photography, Video and Related Media). The list has sparked debate in the city, including a counterpiece in The New York Times.  Liao took photos of the magazine’s picks for the top neighborhoods, including Park Slope, the Lower East Side and Tribeca.
  • An interview between two SVA alumni was recently featured in Illustration Friday. Alumnus and faculty member Yuko Shimizu (MFA 2003 Illustration as Visual Essay) spoke with fellow graduate Yunmee Kyong (MFA 2002 Illustration as Visual Essay) about her illustrations, collages and papier-mache installations.
  • Alumnus Vashtie Kola (BFA 2004 Film and Video) was profiled on the NBC New York Web site. After studying film at SVA, Kola began directing music videos—beginning with the spec music video “Us Placers” from Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing mixtape—and has since branched out to fashion design and party promotion.
  • DART covered PDN‘s 30 2010: Our Choice of New and Emerging Photographers to Watch, a panel discussion at the SVA Theatre with photographers included in Photo District News‘ (PDN) annual list of the best emerging photographers. SVA alumnus Thomas Prior (BFA 2002 Photography) was included in this year’s list.
