Talking Pictures

MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department Chair Marshall Arisman is a well-known painter and illustrator whose work can be seen everywhere from gallery walls to magazine covers. Recently, Arisman went public with a series of Web-based video pieces. The seven new works feature Arisman’s sonorous voice talking, singing and reciting poetry over slowly shifting montages. The pieces run the gamut from art-historical musings (Picasso My Wife) to somewhat surreal combinations of audio and image (The Divine Elvis).
