Festival Features

January 16, 2009

The annual Sundance Film Festival is currently in progress in Park City, Utah, and among the filmmakers getting screen time at this major industry event is SVA alumnus Lynn Shelton (MFA 1995 Photography, Video and Related Media). She is the writer and director of Humpday, a feature film about two friends who wind up stumbling into the middle of an amateur pornography competition. Shelton’s irreverent comedy is showing six times at a variety of Sundance venues; for information on screening times and tickets, visit festival.sundance.org. And while on the site, be sure to check out Breakfast, a 10-part series of short animations about independent filmmakers in NYC. The series was created by Robert Fox (BFA 2005 Animation), Greg Parker (BFA 2005 Film and Video), Christian Pindar (BFA 2005 Film and Video) and Casey Safron, manager of the BFA Animation Department.
In other film-fest news, Mental, a feature-length documentary by alumnus Kazuhiro Soda (BFA 1997 Film and Video) is hitting festival screens around the world: it has been invited to the Berlin International Film Festival, Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival, Dubai International Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight and Visions du Reel. Before beginning this busy 2009 schedule, Mental won the Mecenat Award for best documentary upon its world premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival in October 2008.
