Members of the SVA community have just gotten noteworthy nods as leaders of the next generation of creative talents. Popular Photography magazine has published its list of Emerging Artists 2008, and two recent alumni from the BFA Photography Department were among the 13 artists named. Fashion photographers Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader (both 2007), better known as Reed+Rader, were honored for their, “contemporary understanding of how photography functions.” According to the competition’s jurors, Reed+Rader create images that, “feel fresh in this staid time for the fashion industry.”
In the world of design, another emerging artist took home a top honor from HOW magazine. Alumnus Zeynep Orbay (MFA 2008 Design) received an Outstanding Achievement Award in the Student category of HOW‘s International Design Awards. Orbay won for her SVA thesis project Moiré, a line of household objects that playfully bring graphic design and typography references to the dining table.
