Each year, graphic-design organization Graphis publishes its New Talent Annual, spotlighting the work of the field’s top students and their instructors. More than 100 examples of work by students in the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department were selected for the 2009 edition, and Grace Eunhae Hwang and Isabelle Rancier were singled out for Platinum awards. The Annual also acknowledges the faculty members who oversaw the winning works, and includes tips of the hat to Frank Anselmo, Chris Austopchuk, Allan Beaver, Robert Best, Tracy Boychuk, Kevin Brainard, Brian Brindisi, Steven Brower, Henrita Condak, Darren Cox, Sal DeVito, Louise Fili, John Fulbrook, Cristos Gianakos, Jeff Glendenning, Michael Ian Kaye, Terry Koppel, Ji Lee, Jack Mariucci, Richard Mehl, Jeffrey Metzner, William Morrisey,Kevin O’Callaghan, Richard Poulin, Robert Reitzfeld, Chad Roberts, Skip Sorvino, Vinny Tulley and Genevieve Williams, as well as Department Chair Richard Wilde.
Another publication that recently cast its eye on members of the SVA community is T: The New York Times Style Magazine. The Design and Living Winter 2008 issue includes an article entitled “Artful Lodgers,” which collects interviews and photographs of six female artists in their NYC homes. Among them are faculty members Fia Backström and Mary Heilmann, and alumnus Sarah Sze (MFA 1997 Fine Arts). To view the article online, click here.
