Octopus Ink

October 24, 2008

Since May 2007, alumnus Meredith Gran (BFA 2006 Animation) has been publishing the humorous Web comic Octopus Pie. Updated three times a week at octopuspie.com, the comic strip follows the adventures (and occasional misadventures) of Everest “Eve” Ning and Hanna Thompson, two Brooklyn roommates in their 20s who are navigating work, relationships, grad school and life in general. Now, in addition to the line of T-shirts, hoodies and other Octopus Pie merchandise for sale through the site, Gran is making 11×17” original artwork of the comic available to readers. For more information, visit the Octopus Pie Web site.

In other cartoon news, two SVA faculty members are participating in “Goddess, Man and Mouse,” a cartooning exhibition at the newly opened 92nd Street Y in Tribeca, 200 Hudson Street. Hutch Owen creator Tom Hart (BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department) and The Goddess of War creator Lauren Weinstein (Pre-College Program) are two of the three artists included in 92YTribeca’s inaugural 2D art show, for which there will be an opening reception on Saturday, October 25, 7 – 9pm.
