The September 21 New York Times Magazine was a special issue that focused on college, ranging from a look at online reviews of colleges to the role of the artist in the academy. The magazine’s editors commissioned original artwork and photography from current college students across North America, and the work of seven SVA students appeared in the issue’s pages: MFA Design Department students Steve Haslip and Steven Smith; MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department student Annick Rosenfield; BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department student Eric Ku; and BFA Photography Department students Victoria Hely-Hutchinson, Alec Holst and Christopher Kim. SVA was the only New York City college to have students’ work in the issue, and was the most prominent institution by page count.
Over at I.D. magazine, the selections for the Student Design Review 2008 included work from three recent alumni. Honorable Mentions went to Bomina Kim (MFA 2008 Design) and James Kyungmo Yang (BFA 2007 Graphic Design), and a nod for Design Distinction was given to Serifcan Ozcan (MFA 2007 Design). Work from all three artists can be seen in an online slideshow, linked here.
