Landscape Nouveau

October 31, 2008

Recent alumnus Rachel Barrett (MFA 2008 Photography, Video and Related Media) is set to open her first solo exhibition, “Rachel Barrett: The New American Landscape.” Typically shooting outdoors, Barrett’s photographs isolate odd, sometimes dreamlike moments between people and their natural and constructed environments. Curated by fellow alumnus Jade Doskow (MFA 2008 Photography, Video and Related Media), the show includes images from Barrett’s SVA thesis project, the Along the Way series. The show is on view at the Broadway Gallery, 473 Broadway, 7th floor, November 1 – 15.

In addition to the gallery exhibition, Barrett’s work can be seen in the latest installment of Fraction, a new online-only photography magazine. The November issue features selections from NYC Newsstand Project, a series of photos documenting the colorful news kiosks that punctuate the city’s sidewalks.
