This month, two departments at SVA are hosting conferences in New York City, inviting academics, artists and the general public to examine timely topics in depth. First, the Humanities and Sciences Department presents the 22nd Annual National Conference on Liberal Arts and the Education of Artists. This year’s edition, titled Design, the Arts and the Political: Images and Words that Propagate and Dissent, features three days of presentations and panel discussions, plus a keynote address by MFA Design Department Co-chair Steven Heller. That same week, the MPS Art Therapy Department, in conjunction with the Visual Arts Foundation, presents the 24th Annual Art Therapy Conference: Mindfulness in Art Therapy, featuring keynote speaker Ellen Langer, PhD. The one-day conference will look at the therapeutic benefits of focusing on the here and now, and happens on Friday, October 17, 9:30am – 4pm, at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place.
