A Green City

October 24, 2008

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has invited educational institutions around New York City to take the lead in PlaNYC, which aims for a 30% reduction in citywide greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. SVA has accepted the Mayor’s challenge, agreeing to cut emissions by 30% in 10 years, undertake a comprehensive review of the energy use in all of the College’s buildings and take steps to make our facilities more efficient.

At a press conference held at the Bronx Community College on October 23, SVA’s Executive Director of Facilities Jim Pirot connected the College’s long tradition of being a creative, conscientious and responsible member of the NYC community to this initiative: “We’re enormously pleased to accept the Mayor’s challenge,” he said. “The artist’s drive to make art includes the idea that creative acts can—and should—change the world, looking ahead toward a better society.”
