Permanent Marker

September 26, 2008

The newly redesigned Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is opening its doors at 2 Columbus Circle, and alumnus Donna Sharrett (BFA 1984 Fine Arts) is set to become a fixture there. The museum is including her mandala piece from 2000, There are times when I desperately need one good, loving friend: the 35th Memento, in its permanent collection, which will be on view as part of the grand opening exhibition “Permanently MAD: Revealing the Collection,” running September 27, 2008 – February 15, 2009. The museum recently underwent a comprehensive renovation, and this is the first time in MAD’s 52-year history that the institution has had dedicated gallery space for its permanent collection. Sharrett’s work is also included in an illustrated, 250-page catalogue that accompanies the exhibition.
