Each year, the University and College Designers Association (UCDA) holds a design competition, and each time SVA makes an impressive showing. This year is no exception, with the Visual Arts Press (VAP) earning two Gold, one Silver and 10 Excellence awards from the UCDA. The pair of Gold awards went to the 2008/09 Undergraduate Catalog and the class of 2007’s BFA Photography Portfolio, and the Silver was awarded for the fall 2007 issue of the Visual Arts Journal. These publications, and the other award-winning VAP designs, will be on display at the UCDA’s 38th Annual Design Conference, taking place October 5 – 7, in Savannah, Georgia.
Also, the finalists in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards were announced recently, and three SVA alumni made the list. Tatachapon Lertwirojkul (MFA 2007 Computer Art) and Chia-Chien Mai (MFA 2008 Computer Art) were finalists in the Animation category, while Eric Collins (BFA 2000 Illustration) was named in the Illustration competition. A record 2,700 students from 33 countries had work entered in the 2008 contest, and all finalists were invited to NYC for Adobe’s award event at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
