The New York Photo Awards (NYPA) recently took place in NYC, and several SVA photographers were included in the competition. Current MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department student Harlan Erskine and alumnus Bryan Lear (MFA 2008 Photography, Video and Related Media) garnered NYPA nominations for their lens work. Alumnus and faculty member Amy Stein (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media) won the top prize in the Photography Book category, for which she received a Canon digital camera along with the NYPA award, and Naho Kubota (BFA 2008 Photography) earned an honorable mention in the same category.

Another photo honor went to BFA Photography Department faculty member Ellen Wallenstein, who has won a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellowship in Photography for 2008. NYFA chose 144 New York artists as fellows in 11 disciplines, awarding each a $7,000 grant to support their work. To view a complete list of the NYFA fellows, visit nyfa.org.
