War Talk

February 15, 2008

In conjunction with the ongoing exhibition, “Testimony to War: Art from the Battlegrounds of Iraq,” SVA is presenting a panel discussion on the art coming out of the conflict in Iraq. The discussion will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 7pm, in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor, and will be moderated by radio host Leonard Lopate of WNYC, with five panelists who have had first-hand experience of the war. The panelists include: embedded painter Steve Mumford; embedded photographer and filmmaker Brian Palmer; performance artist and Army Sergeant Aaron Hughes; sculptor and Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Roa; and Chief Warrant Officer-2 Michael Fay, one of two official combat artists currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. They will talk about their individual experiences in Iraq and how this has informed their work. The event is free and open to the public, and the accompanying “Testimony to War” exhibition is on view through Saturday, March 8, at the Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23rd Street.
