Step Up

February 1, 2008

Two recent alumni from the MFA Design Department were selected by STEP Inside Design for its latest Emerging Talent list: Randy Hunt (2007) and Serifcan Ozcan (2007) are both included in the January/February issue’s cover story, which promises, “a fresh look at the 25 freshest minds in design.” Curated by designer and educator Terry Lee Stone, the feature includes articles about Hunt’s altruistic design work, including The Amazing Project, a Web portal for community-action groups; and Ozcam’s cross-cultural visual aesthetic, as seen in his online archive for Turkish design. Elsewhere in the same issue of STEP, the magazine profiles one of SVA’s newest academic programs, the MFA Design Criticism Department, and its chair, Alice Twemlow.

Also, current MFA Design Department student Sophy Sorim Lee and BFA Fine Arts Department student Paul Vogeler were given merit awards by Creative Quarterly (CQ). The latest issue of CQ includes Lee’s illustration Small Tree and Vogeler’s painting Contemporary Fascism I.
