Faculty member and alumnus Gail Anderson (BFA 1984 Graphic Design) has just received big news: she will be a 2008 recipient of the AIGA Medal. This award recognizes exceptional achievements, services or other contributions to the field of design and visual communication, and in the past has gone to SVA founder and Chairman Silas H. Rhodes (2004), faculty member Paula Scher (2001) MFA Design Department Co-chair Steven Heller (1999), current Acting Chairman Milton Glaser (1972) and other members of the SVA community. Anderson will receive the award at the AIGA’s Design Legends Gala on September 18 in New York City.
Anderson’s work as creative director at SpotCo, a New York City-based design studio and ad agency, has also earned admiration from SVA: just ahead of the AIGA announcement, Anderson was selected to design the College’s next round of subway advertisements. Her contribution to this ongoing and often-lauded series of ads is set to hit MTA walls in early August 2008.
