The classrooms and studios at SVA are sites of constant education and instruction, but many members of the faculty are not content with stopping there. Two new educational books by SVA instructors have just hit bookshelves. First, MPS Digital Photography Department Chair Katrin Eismann has co-authored The Creative Digital Darkroom (O’Reilly Media, 2008) with photographer Sean Duggan. The book provides photographers with practical instruction on how to use the digital medium to create, edit and output images that reflect their true vision, illustrated through original tutorial images and high-profile photographic works.
Also out now is Design Evolution: A Handbook of Basic Design Principles Applied in Contemporary Design (Rockport Publishers, 2008) by BFA Advertising and Graphic Design faculty member Timothy Samara. The book presents several case studies that explore concepts, designers’ strategies and visual problem-solving, demonstrating real-world applications that will help designers learn to achieve their visual communication goals.
