As New York City unveils its annual winter-holiday displays, two SVA alumni are involved in a pair of notable projects. Amy Jesaitis (BFA 1981 Fine Arts) was commissioned by Wedgewood to create all 300 ornaments for this year’s tree at Manhattan’s Lincoln Center. Each ornament is painted Wedgewood’s signature blue and decorated by hand with a different musical theme, to reflect the productions at the Upper West Side landmark. Jesaitis’ work on the ornaments was showcased at the November 26 tree-lighting ceremony, which included live performances from the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Ballet.
A little further downtown, work by Trish Burgio (BFA 1985 Media Arts) can be seen in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Avenue. This year’s holiday display includes renderings of her illustrations from the children’s book Snowpeople (Harper Collins, 2007), written by Rick and Ryan Zeeb. Burgio’s illustrations have been turned into lifelike mechanical 3D characters, and in conjunction with the display Saks is offering a limited, hardcover edition of the book for the holidays, with $2 from each sale going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
