Movie Souvenirs

December 14, 2007

As movie critics assemble their Best of 2007 lists and gear up for Oscar season, SVA alumnus Rene Martine Carson (BFA 1992 Illustration) has created A Visual History of African-American Oscar Nominees, a 2008 calendar printed by By Hand Media. The calendar showcases African-Americans who have been honored with Academy Awards, including Oscar recipient Hattie McDaniel and two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington. It also features lesser-known contributors to the history of cinema such as director Gordon Parks and actor Woody Strode.

In other show-biz news, a new DVD box set comprises The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones TV series, along with several extra features. Among those bonus tracks on the set is an interview with Steven Heller, co-chair of the MFA Design Department, and the recipient of the 2007 Masters Series Award. In one of the DVD’s accompanying documentaries, Heller speaks on the subject of American Dreams: Norman Rockwell and the Saturday Evening Post.
