Awarding-Winning Advocate

December 14, 2007

On Friday, November 30, the University Council for Art Education (UCAE) hosted its annual members’ reception at The Pen and Brush Club in New York City. One of the highlights of this year’s event was the presentation of two awards to SVA President David Rhodes. In honor of his longstanding commitment to art education, the New York State Art Teachers’ Association’s former president Gary Bates named Rhodes a Consummate Quality Visual Art Education Advocate in New York State, which was accompanied by a $500 donation to the SVA Alumni Society. In addition, UCAE’s annual Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the College’s president.

At the event, tributes were delivered by Rose Viggiano, chair of the MAT Art Education Department; Provost Christopher Cyphers; and Jeffrey Nesin, a former assistant to President Rhodes and current president of the Memphis College of Art. The UCAE is comprised of art educators from colleges and universities in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
