The MPS Art Therapy Department is sponsoring two upcoming events. On Tuesday, September 18, 6:30 – 8:30pm, Claudia Bader, MPS, ATR-BC, NCPSYA, LCAT, LP, will give a talk entitled Symbolism and Art Therapy. Bader will explore different theories about what symbols are, how they function and a system for understanding how to interpret them. The following month, the department, in conjunction with the Visual Arts Foundation, presents Symbolic Communication: Meaning through Metaphor, a conference with keynote speaker Thomas Moore, a leading lecturer and writer on archetypal psychology, mythology and the imagination. He has written numerous books, among them The New York Times bestseller Care of the Soul. Special guest speakers include David Read Johnson, PhD, RDT-BCT, director at the Institute for the Arts in Psychotherapy; and Robin Goodman, ATR-BC, PhD, director of A Caring Hand, the Billy Esposito Foundation Bereavement Center.
