Critical Summer

August 10, 2007

BFA Photography Department student Brendan Stumpf has put together a series of summer critiques for his fellow members of the class of 2008. Over the course of several sessions, students get the opportunity to have their work critiqued by photography professionals, including Sophie Mörner, Yancey Richardson, Charles Traub, Jerry Vezzuso and Eric Weeks. During each session, the young photographers get a fast-paced critique of their work from the guest critics and fellow students.

“The idea is that as next year’s senior class, we can continue to have an intelligent conversation about photography between our junior and senior years,” says Stumpf. The final event of the summer takes place on Thursday, August 30, with gallerist Michael Foley. After the summer, Stumpf is hoping to extend the series into the semester and make it a regular resource for SVA photography students. For more information, visit or contact
