The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures (NBR) recently awarded $55,000 in student grants to nine university film programs, including the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at SVA. Faculty member and Chairman of the NBR Scholarship and Endowment Committee Roy Frumkes presented scholarships to students Kevin Heng-Yi Shen (for animation) and Sean Dermond (for film), both of whom will be seniors in the 2007–08 academic year.

In other film news, alumni George Carrara (BFA 2006 Film and Video) and Henry Kim (BFA 2005 Fine Arts) are both part of this summer’s Staten Island Film Festival. The festival, which runs June 20 – 24, will be screening more than 100 films in nine Staten Island venues, along with parties, panel discussions and an awards ceremony on Sunday, June 24.
