Academy’s Awards

March 8, 2007

Each year, the American Academy of Arts and Letters (AAAL) draws up a shortlist of candidates for its annual awards, chosen from a pool of more than 150 artists nominated by the 250 members of the Academy, America’s most prestigious society of architects, artists, writers and composers. Three SVA alumni are on this year’s AAAL list: Juan Gomez (BFA 1998 Fine Arts), Joe Fig (MFA 2002 Fine Arts, BFA 1991 Fine Arts) and Cordy Ryman (BFA 1997 Fine Arts).

Before announcing the winners of the awards, AAAL is presenting “Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Art,” an exhibition of works by the nominees. The show is on view through Sunday, April 1, at the Academy’s headquarters, 633 West 155th Street; the exhibition is free and open to the public from 1 – 4pm, Thursdays through Sundays.
