On March 12, the Visual Arts Foundation invited guests to The National Arts Club for a celebration of the newly opened Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives, which is housed in the Visual Arts Library. The Foundation’s director, Rodlyn Douglas, and Library Director Robert Lobe spoke at the event, along with designers Ivan Chermayeff, Tom Geismar and Milton Glaser, who have contributed significant bodies of work to the Archives. Next was a presentation from archivist Beth Kleber, who provided a look at selections from the Archives, including works by Chermayeff, Geismar, Glaser, adman Ed McCabe, and art director, designer and photographer Henry Wolf. All attendees received a limited-edition print, designed by Glaser especially for the occasion.
The Archives’ mission is to collect, preserve and make accessible design works of significant historical and artistic value. They are open Monday – Friday, 9am – 2pm, by appointment only. To schedule a visit or inquire about the collections, please call 212.592.2636 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
