Go Tubing

The online video-sharing site YouTube recently hosted its first-ever YouTube Video Awards. The site asked its global community of users to select winners in seven categories: Most Creative, Best Comedy, Best Commentary, Best Series, Best Music Video, Most Inspirational and Most Adorable. Each category had several nominees, which users could rank in order of preference.

When the votes were tallied, SVA alumnus Dony Permedi (MFA 2006 Computer Art) was the winner in the Most Adorable category. His short animation, Kiwi, follows the titular creature’s elaborate efforts to experience flight and has been viewed on YouTube more than 7 million times. Kiwi was Permedi’s departmental thesis project, which took on a life of its own after he posted it online and it struck a chord with viewers worldwide.
