Big Shows

March 22, 2007

A new show has opened at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) entitled “Comic Abstraction,” and several members of the SVA community are included: notable SVA alumni Inka Essenhigh (MFA 1994 Fine Arts) and Gary Simmons (BFA 1988 Fine Arts), along with faculty members Polly Apfelbaum and Sue Williams. The exhibition brings together work by 13 contemporary artists, each of whom balances the abstract and the comedic in their art. “Comic Abstraction” is on view at MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, through Monday, June 11.

In addition, the work of several students in the BFA Interior Design Department is being shown as part of “Interior Design: Sustaining the Future,” the 2007 New York 11 student exhibition. New York 11 is a collaboration of 11 prestigious New York State educational institutions offering four-year programs in interior design. The exhibition will be at the New York Design Center, 200 Lexington Avenue, 11th floor, April 2 – 6, with an opening ceremony on Monday, April 2 at 5:30pm.
