The City is an Open Book

February 2, 2007

Type designer and historian Paul Shaw (faculty, Art History Department and BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department) is set to give a talk on lettering on buildings and other places in cities: From the Streets to the Sky: Reading the City. This illustrated talk will focus on urban lettering, with examples from ancient Rome to modern American cities.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2 – 4pm, as part of the Society of Scribes’ annual general meeting (open to non-members, no admission fee), Trinity Church, 74 Trinity Place, 2nd floor parlor. The talk is a follow-up to Letters from New York 2, the Society’s journal, which is dedicated to Shaw’s essay on lettering in New York City.
