A Solid Foundation

February 9, 2007

SVA alumnus Matthew Pillsbury (MFA 2004 Photography, Video and Related Media) has just been named the winner of the 2007 HSBC Foundation for Photography Prize, topping a short list of 13 nominees drawn from 823 candidates. The prize is given each year by HSBC to support the work of professional but little-known photographers by helping them promote and publicize their work. As one of this year’s two winners, Pillsbury will have a monograph published on the Actes Sud imprint, get four shows in Paris and the French provinces, and receive a cash prize.

In other awards news, alumnus Aaron Yanes (BFA 2001 Film and Video) was the editor for Padre Nuestro (written and directed by Christopher Zalia), the film that won the 2007 Sundance Film Festival’s grand jury prize for Best American Drama.
