SVA’s students, faculty and alumni are best known for creating works of visual art, but they are also prominent in the world of publishing, generating an impressive number of books. In recognition, the College has partnered with the Chelsea Barnes & Noble, 675 Sixth Avenue, to host an ongoing series of book events for this prolific slate of authors. Alumnus Tom Sito (BFA 1977 Animation) will take part in a discussion of his new book, Drawing the Line: The Untold Story of the Animation Unions from Bosko to Bart Simpson (The University Press of Kentucky), on Wednesday, November 29, 7pm; and MFA Computer Art Department Chair Bruce Wands, will be presenting his history of digital art, Art of the Digital Age (Thames & Hudson), on Wednesday, December 6, 7pm. Both events are free and open to the public.
Another bookstore, Borders, will be hosting its own set of SVA-related authors for a book signing. Charles H. Traub, chair of the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department; Steven Heller, co-chair of the MFA Design Department; and alumnus Adam B. Bell (MFA 2004 Photography, Video and Related Media) will be signing their new book, The Education of a Photographer (Allworth Press), at the Borders at 32nd Street and 2nd Avenue on Wednesday, December 13, at 7pm.
