Two SVA department chairs have collaborated with an alumnus on a new book that is out now. The Education of a Photographer (Allworth Press)—edited by Charles H. Traub (chair, MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department), Steven Heller (co-chair, MFA Design Department) and Adam B. Bell (MFA 2004 Photography, Video and Related Media)—collects 51 essays and interviews by a talented group of photographers, teachers and thinkers who take the reader through the varied landscape of photography and examine what it means to be a photographer in the 21st century. The book is the latest in the ongoing The Education of… series, all edited or co-edited by Heller.
In other book news, alumnus Irene Kai (1972 Media Arts) will be taking part in a discussion of her new book of photography, What Do You See? (Silver Light) on Wednesday, October 25, 7pm, at the Chelsea Barnes & Noble, 675 Sixth Avenue; free and open to the public.
