Following a successful inaugural event in fall 2005, the Alumni Society of School of Visual Arts is holding its second annual Alumni Society Auction on Tuesday, September 26, 6 – 9pm, in the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor. One-hundred works by SVA alumni, faculty, mentors and students will be auctioned off to raise substantial funds to provide scholarships to SVA students; faculty member Maira Kalman, alumnus Joseph Kosuth (1967 Fine Arts), former board member Roy Lichtenstein, faculty member Marilyn Minter, mentor Andres Serrano, alumnus Phoebe Washburn (MFA 2002 Fine Arts) and mentor William Wegman are among the artists who will be represented. The Alumni Society will also be honoring painter and SVA alumnus Elizabeth Peyton (1987 Fine Arts); painter and SVA faculty member Mary Heilmann; and Art + Commerce co-founder and SVA mentor James Moffat for their significant contributions to the SVA community and the cultural and artistic life of New York City.
There is a free preview of the works included in the live and silent auctions taking place at the gallery through Saturday, September 23; a catalogue of works is also available online at www.svaalumniauction.cmarket.com.
