United We Stand

July 14, 2006

Student work from “Disarm,” a 3D Design exhibition that took place February – March 2006 at the SVA Gallery and the Art Directors Club, is on display at the United Nations headquarters in New York City as part of “Crush the Illicit Trade in Small Arms.” The exhibition is currently on view through Thursday, August 3, in the South Gallery of the General Assembly Visitors’ Lobby, East 46th Street and First Avenue.

Three students from the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department are participating: Stephanie Monroe, Michael Pisano and Michele Silverstein, each of whom fashioned everyday objects from replicas of M-16 rifles. The exhibit coincides with the United Nations Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects. It calls attention to the dangers posed by the illicit trade of small arms and informs the public about key efforts of the UN, its agencies and programs to address the problem of illegal small arms.
