Collector’s Call

SVA is collaborating with The Affordable Art Fair (AAF) to present two panel discussions for new and experienced collectors of contemporary art and photography. On Saturday, June 17, 2pm, writer, critic and SVA faculty member Monroe Denton will lead a discussion entitled Smart Choices: Building Your Collection. The panelists will cover such issues as buying art as an investment, doing research and specializing in various media. On Sunday, June 18, 2pm, art dealer W.M. Hunt will moderate a panel entitled Developing a Collection: Buying and Owning Photography, with discussion of edition size, printing processes and other considerations unique to the medium. Admission to each program is free with AAF admission. Both programs take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street.
The College is also participating in AAF as an exhibitor, showing new and recent work in a range of media by 11 graduates from SVA’s class of 2006: Michael Bilsborough (MFA Illustration as Visual Essay), Steven Bindernagel (MFA Fine Arts), Ryan Brown (BFA Fine Arts), Jesse Cesario (BFA Photography), Ogechi Chieke (MFA Computer Art), Max Dworkin (BFA Photography), Adam Hester (BFA Photography), Allison Hester (MFA Fine Arts), Ricky Sears (MFA Fine Arts), Amy Stein (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media) and Jae-Kwon Youn (MFA Fine Arts). AAF hours are: Friday, June 16, 12noon – 8pm; Saturday, June 17, 12noon – 8pm; Sunday, June 18, 11am – 6pm. General admission is $12/day, $9/day for students and seniors, $7/day for groups. Children under 12 are admitted free of charge.
