Full Honors

On Monday, May 15, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) will confer an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts to SVA founder and Chairman Silas H. Rhodes. MICA’s honorary degree is awarded to individuals with a record of “extraordinary achievements that have made a lasting impact upon the visual arts.” Past recipients of this degree include illustrator and SVA alumnus Paul Davis (G 1959 Illustration) and Mary Schmidt Campbell, dean of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Mr. Rhodes will be honored alongside abstract painter Sam Gilliam as part of MICA’s commencement exercises in Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
