A delegation of faculty and staff from SVA is currently on a trip to Korea and Japan to host and participate in a number of events. Highlights include orientation sessions for prospective students, along with lectures by Marshall Arisman, chair of the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department, and Richard Wilde, chair of the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department. Wilde will deliver a lecture entitled Wilde Thinking on Friday, May 19, 3pm at Seoul Women’s Plaza in Korea; Arisman’s lecture, The Art of Storytelling, will take place on Sunday, May 21, 3pm, at the Roppongi Academy Hill in Tokyo.

According to Executive Vice President Anthony P. Rhodes, “For over 16 years now SVA has been recruiting students from Korea and Japan. Their addition to our student body has been one key element to increasing diversity. Now we have hundreds of alumni who have returned to Korea and Japan with an SVA degree in hand. Our alumni groups in Seoul and Tokyo are strong and we are making this trip to ensure their continued growth.” Later this summer, the College will present “Sóu-Lí/Sound,” an exhibition of works by 49 South Korean artists who graduated from SVA, July 8 – 22 in the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor.
