Stage and Screen

March 24, 2006

After getting their start making fellow students laugh at performances on the SVA campus, sketch-comedy troupe The Whitest Kids You Know has continued to become a comedic force to be reckoned with. Whitest Kids Trevor Moore (BFA 2003 Film and Video), Sam Brown (BFA 2004 Film and Video) and Zach Cregger (BFA 2004 Computer Art) write and perform original comedy sketches at venues around the city, including the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Recently, the Kids traveled to Aspen, Colorado, for the HBO-U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, an industry showcase that has served as the launching ground for Sarah Silverman, Ray Romano and others. Their performance earned the group the festival’s Best Sketch Jury Award, one of only five awards handed out for live performance.

Also, Jeff Mednikow (BFA 2005 Animation) won third place in the animation division of the 33rd annual Student Academy Awards for his thesis film, Pizzicato. This marks the third year in a row that an SVA student has earned a major award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in this competition, following Christopher Conforti (BFA 2004 Animation) in 2005 and Robert Castillo (MFA 2005 Computer Art) and Sukwon Shin (MFA 2004 Computer Art) in 2004.
