Two members of the SVA community have recently been singled out for outstanding work in their respective fields. Randy Hunt, a current MFA Design Department student, received a Certificate of Typographic Excellence from the Type Directors Club (TDC). His winning work — Pumping Iron for Enya, which he created in Gail Anderson’s Just Type course — will be part of both the Typography 27 Annual and a special TDC awards exhibition, which will tour the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan. Hunt is one of 205 artists selected from a field of over 2,000 entries from 29 countries.
In addition, Shimon Attie (faculty, MFA Photography, Video and Related Media) is the recipient of the 2006 Jewish Cultural Achievement Award in the Visual Arts from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture (NFJC). The award recognizes an artist who has a significant body of work of consistent achievement; works to the highest standards of the discipline; and makes a significant contribution to Jewish life and culture in America. BFA Fine Arts Department faculty member Tobi Kahn was the NFJC’s pick for this award in 2004.
