Fresh Mellon

February 10, 2006

Smack Mellon has just moved to a new gallery space at 92 Plymouth Street in DUMBO and is celebrating with an exhibition appropriately titled “Site 92.” The exhibition inaugurates the gallery’s new home with site-specific works created by artists responding to Smack Mellon’s latest space: a 12,000-square-foot, two-story former boiler building, complete with a large-scale coal trough.

Included in the roster of artists are Amy Finkbeiner (MFA 2001 Fine Arts), who has made drawings to adorn the bathroom; Mariam Ghani (MFA 2002 Photography and Related Media), whose transparencies cover several windows; Rita MacDonald (MFA 2001 Fine Arts), who created large plaster wall drawings; and Ruby Palmer (MFA 2000 Fine Arts), whose fictional “floor plans” annex the front stairwell. These works and more are on view at the gallery through Sunday, March 5.
