Critical History

February 24, 2006

On Thursday, March 2, the MFA Art Criticism and Writing Department presents the next installment of The Critics Series, which brings art critics to SVA to talk about issues in today’s art criticism. Following packed houses for recent talks by Arthur Danto and Mira Schor, writer and professor David Carrier will deliver the next lecture in the series: considering painting and sculpture from all cultures to offer a “first draft” of a world art history. Carrier is the Champney Family Professor at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art, and is the author of more than a dozen books, including The Art of Artwriting (Allworth Press) and The Aesthetics of the Comic Strip (University Park). The lecture is free and open to the public.
