This week, the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay Department is opening “The Book Show,” an exhibition of 19 original books created by department students. Sung Yoon Choi, Daniel DaSilva, Lauren Shahroody, Steven Tabbutt and Chadwick Whitehead were all selected by Marshall Arisman and Carl Titolo to show their handcrafted books at the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Gallery, 164 Fifth Avenue. The works on display range from Whitehead’s painted caricatures of celebrity clones run amok to DaSilva’s look at the hip-hop industry through on-location drawing in recording studios and interviews with hip-hop artists. “The Book Show” will be at the AIGA Gallery, January 23 – 27; there will be a reception for the artists on Monday, January 23, 6 – 8pm.
