I Am What I Am

January 13, 2006

As part of the 15th-anniversary celebration of the Gallerie Atelier Herenplaats, a non-profit gallery for outsider art in Rotterdam, students from SVA’s printmaking program are the first Americans invited to participate in an international collaborative exhibition called “Who Am I?” Gunars Prande, coordinator of printmaking for the BFA Fine Arts Department, selected five students to take part: Mason Gehring, Andres Martinez, Kenny Rivero, Francesca Strada (all seniors in the BFA Fine Arts Departments) and Panayiotis Terzis (a BFA Illustration Department senior). Prande and his students will show graphic works alongside their peers from Rotterdam’s Willem de Kooning Academie and the artists affiliated with Herenplaats. Each artist is contributing three small works on the open-ended theme of identity suggested by the show’s title.

“Who Am I?” will run January 20 – March 19; during the exhibition, a panel of judges will evaluate the work on display and award a prize of 1,000 euros, to be used towards a trip to New York City or Rotterdam.
