Art vs. Arms

November 4, 2005

Can artists and photographers play a role in creating a culture of dissent? How do images influence public opinion at a time of war? These are the central questions for Disarming Images: Creating a Culture of Dissent, a screening and panel discussion being held on Thursday, November 10, 7pm, in the Amphitheater, 209 East 23rd Street, 3rd floor. Moderated by BFA Photography Department faculty member Barbara Pollack, the panel will include artist Paul Chan, author and faculty member David Levi-Strauss, artist Ann Messner and writer Michael Shulan. The event will also feature Disarming Images, a multi-channel video projection by Artists Against the War, a social-protest group for artists critical of the war in Iraq. Admission is free and open to the public.
