Each year SVA bestows the Masters Series Award to a groundbreaking visual artist who, over the course of his/her career, has been recognized as a great visual communicator of our time. This year, the College is honoring international art director, illustrator and designer Heinz Edelmann, who has worked on projects as diverse as designing book covers for the Klett-Cotta publishing house in Stuttgart and serving as art director for the 1968 animated feature film, Yellow Submarine.
In conjunction with the award, the Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23rd Street, will present “The Masters Series: Heinz Edelmann,” a retrospective of over 100 posters, screen prints, magazine spreads, book designs, animations and comic books. The exhibition will be on display October 24 – December 3, and there will be an opening reception on Monday, October 24, 6 – 8pm. Edelmann will also present a lecture on Tuesday, October 25, 6pm, in the 3rd floor Amphitheater. The 2005 Masters Series Dinner will take place on Monday, October 24, at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South. Tickets are $250 per person and proceeds will benefit the Visual Arts Foundation. For tickets and information, contact Louis Egnasko at 212.260.7607 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
